Whitehall Place, E7
A compact mews block and shared yard that bring light, doors and passive surveillance to a quiet back street.

The rear of the site was first planned as six dwellings addressing Whitehall Place. We then secured a further two homes through a single-storey extension, strengthening residential presence along the lane. The scheme is all-electric, with a fabric-first envelope and air-source heat pumps for space heating and hot water.

Massing steps down to mews scale and sets back to form pavement and front doors on the lane. Large, ordered openings deepen the façade and place windows and entrances where they naturally overlook the street. The first-floor cill is emphasised to compress the upper level visually, and a lighter framed top storey reduces apparent height. Materials are tough and familiar: predominantly stock brick with precast and aluminium detailing, consistent with the courtyard language.
Our intention here is to spark long-term change along Whitehall Place by actively using and caring for our stretch of the lane. By proving that lane-fronting homes and small workspaces can feel safe, useful and welcoming, we hope neighbouring owners will follow suit. Over time, the ambition is a lived-in mews road with more doors, lights and everyday activity, making the route more inviting for residents and neighbours alike.
